  • - Booked early for Polestar II; at pickup no such car, downgraded at the same price with a $500 uplift despite the assurance.

I booked early to take advantage to a better rate and to secure a specific vehicle (Polestar II electric). Between the time of booking and pick-up I was assured this vehicle would be available.

At the counter the requested vehicle was not available and a downgrade (as per their own price schedule) was offered at the same price. Getting an equivalent (their definition by the way) cost me an additional $500 (for a 2 week rental). Trouble is there were several Polestar IIs on the lot. My theory is that the early bird incentive rate would not be honored by the locally run office.

They can sell the car to walk-ins at a higher rate. Oh yeah - I was told to fetch the vehicle from space E26. There is no E26, the row ends in number 23. Back at the counter they indifferently said "maybe I meant E16".

It took another 30 minutes to find the vehicle, all the while my luggage and bicycle are sitting unguarded on the sidewalk.

I called customer service twice about the $500 uplift and both times they told me to call back later. Certainly not the Hertz I'm used to.

Loss:
$500
Cons:
  • Imoral business practice and indifference to the customer

Preferred solution: Price reduction

User's recommendation: Avoid the company entirely. They certainly ain't what they used to be. If in North America have a look at Turo, the personal car rental operation. MUCH cheaper and each owner is highly accountable.

Discrepancy in pricing/availability

AI Highlights
  • - Quoted price for an economy car wasn't honored; upgrade fee totaled over $300.
  • - Refund issued on 7/01; service at Hertz of Nanuet was poor.

When I booked a vehicle, I was quoted a certain price for an economy car. When we went to pick it up, they claimed they had no economy vehicles available and proceeded to charge me an upgrade fee for every day of my rental, totaling over $300.

Fortunately, the service rep *** on 6/16 promised to make it right after we dropped it off, and *** today 7/01 did in fact refund me the monies promised. Hertz of Nanuet customer service, however, was horrible, and the female employee had a major attitude.

Preferred solution: Price reduction

I bought a car in November that was stolen in March, the Gap insurance that I had was refunded by the Gap company because it wasn't used. Hertz "mailed the check" to the bank on April 23rd and as of today the bank still has not received it.

I have called countless numbers to be redirected to some random Hertz sales lot throughout California. Every person I talk to has no clue and I keep getting the "that's done on a corporate level" answer. If that's the case, why can't I speak to someone in the corporate office about this??!

It's mind-blowing how little everyone knows about how to contact the corporate office. What's even more crazy is that every number available online or provided to me by someone who works for Hertz doesn't get you through to SOMEONE in the corporate offices.
Loss:

Pros:
  • Sales team
Cons:
  • Non existent corporate

Preferred solution: To know where my check is!

User's recommendation: Hope that you never need to speak to the corporate office.

Despicable and unprofessional business

  • - Charged for three days instead of two, totaling $227.

PLEASE READ BEFORE GOING THROUGH HERTZ!
Hertz Rental Car is an unprofessional business altogether for several reasons. When my car was totaled by another driver, their insurance company covered the rental car cost for 18 days.

My new car wasn't ready until the following Monday. I called to renew my rental yet an employee said that the insurance company was covering it for 20 day and there was nothing to worry about. This was lie. I was charged for three days instead of two making the total 227 dollars.

Not only was I over charged yet their incompetent tendencies continued yo shine.
On Monday the 28th, I returned my rental car and George the very rude, condescending, manager who easily gets confused and doesnt listen said that my funds were released that following day. This Monday I checked my bank account and there wasnt a statement clarifying that the funds had been released. I called Hertz and was immediately transferred George Bla-bla. George said his documentation shows that the hold had been lifted.

I asked if he could email me a copy of this statement as proof. He aggressively yelled No into my ear. I hung up and called my bank. I had enough of their unprofessionalism now.

I then called my bank and it turned out that Hertz had never held $250 dollars from my bank account in the first place. So either they are stealing my hold or their just too incompetent to operate a business professionally.
Pros:
  • No pros
Cons:
  • 100 con

Preferred solution: Idk

User's recommendation: Don’t rent from Hertz Help them to go out of business

Deceptive, misleading advertising

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • - 2020 Nissan Rogue SL listed by Hertz on cars.com.
  • - Sticker claimed SL amenities; the car was an S model.
  • - Hertz blamed cars.com, then fixed the sticker.

I found a 2020 Nissan Rogue SL advertised on cars.com from Hertz Sales. Contacted them via both email and phone to confirm car was still available.

Agent said yes, and I made an appointment to view the car. When I got to their lot, I met the agent I spoke with, confirmed the vehicle was still available, and she brought the vehicle up for my review. As I examined the sticker on their window, which clearly stated it was a 2020 Nissan Rogue SL, it listed every amenity found on the SL model. Problem was, none of those amenities were on the vehicle.

It turns out the vehicle was not the SL model, but the S model which is $7000 cheaper and doesn't have any of those amenities. When I asked the agent where the amenities were she stated that they sometimes put amenities down that doesn't exist on their cars. When I inquired if this was indeed the SL model (as the amenities are standard on the SL model) she admitted it was not, it was the cheaper S model. In fact Hertz doesn't even carry the SL model.

She then proceeded to blame cars.com for the mistake. I told her its Hertz's car in Hertz's lot with Hertz's sticker on the window. When I got home I contacted Hertz executive committee. They too placed the blame on cars.com and suggested I speak with a sales manager to get better attention.

I explained to Hertz that had I purchased this vehicle and looked for all the amenities on their sticker and then realized they sold me a different, cheaper model it would be considered fraud.

Hertz doesn't seem to care. After I brought this complaint to their attention, they corrected the sticker information and now makes believe the whole incident never happened.

User's recommendation: Avoid Hertz Car Sales
